What Is Sound healing?

Well, if that's not a loaded question I don't know what is.

I thought I'd do some quick-fire facts, quotes, and reasons why sound is so incredible. I'm going to answer these questions in a series of blogs so we can learn together in an easy and digestible way.

In general, a sound bath is a meditative experience where those in attendance are “bathed” in sound waves. These waves are produced by various sources, including healing instruments such as gongs, singing bowls, percussion, chimes, rattles, tuning forks, and even the human voice itself.

The music doesn’t have a catchy melody or rhythm like you’d experience at a rock concert or symphony but, instead, is a carefully selected wash of instruments and voice with notable resonance and overtones.

Working with a variety of instruments we are entraining brainwaves, and encouraging the body to 'let go'.

By providing a deeply healing experience, we can reset the nervous system, entrain brainwaves to a more meditative state(theta) and heal on a cellular level by relieving pain and held tension.

People have been using sound to promote healing for thousands of years. For example, ancient Greek physicians used musical instruments as therapy believing that the instruments' vibrations could aid in digestion, treat mental disturbance, and induce sleep. Meanwhile, ancient Egyptians thought musical incantations healed the sick. We have just taken this ancient form of music medicine and made it accessible.

✨A feeling of rejuvenation

This was a birthday gift from a friend and I can't tell you how enjoyable is was. It was unlike anything I've ever done before! Music, sound, instruments I don't even know what making sounds near me, around me, through me, beyond me.. I know that sounds strange but I was completely into from the onset! It lasted an hour and a half and I must have fallen asleep under the relaxtion of all of it, the space, the bed and Josephine who has such a lovely vibe that you trust completely. I'll definitely be back and highly recommend it for those looking for relaxation or you want to just switch off from everything... It seemed to relax every cell in my body as the sounds feel like they purified them..!?! A totally unique experience for me !

Working with sound can be profound, from healing to finding more peace and calm.

+ Binaural beats, using tones that are close in frequency, but not the same, help to synchronize your brainwaves, thus encouraging a Theta state of brainwaves, this is the state you'll find yourself in during a deep meditation or on the cusp of sleep.

+ Quantum Physics! We are using vibrations to move the whole of the physical form and baseline energy of the body, this promotes healing, rest, and a 'deep massage-like release. Our body holds everything, we don't often give ourselves time to process even day-to-day things, so the body holds on, it remembers. Sound healing can be exceptionally helpful for those who are suffering from depression, trauma, and grief.

+ A few of the chosen instruments may encourage ASMR(A tingling all over the skin and head), scientist believe this is because the brain is telling the person they are cared for and safe.

“The adult body is 75% water, and water is a great conductor for sound vibration,”

“When vibrations travel through the body, they promote circulation, energy flow, and rejuvenation. The frequency of the sound synchronizes with the brainwaves and activates de-stress responses in the body.”

+ Raising your vibration, ever walk into a room and you can FEEL the energy as heavy, perhaps the people, the words being said, the light levels or noise... then think, everyone, wandered into a 'light' place, perhaps the depths of nature, the cool sea, or maybe an outside concert? How it has impacted you. 'raising your vibration' is what we are doing in a Soundbath or healing. Untying knots, letting go of old feelings, beliefs, and energy. Resetting the whole system.

+ Spiritual connection. For those of us who come from a yoga background or believe beyond the physical realm Sound can be immense transformative, it can support ancestral healing, and allow deeper thoughts and ideas to emerge, it also tunes up the Chakra system, something I'm deeply passionate about. If you focus on the sound and let go of the physical world, profound healing and energy work can take place.

+ Neuroscience: Brainwaves. Which brainwaves are you likely to encourage during a session(if you focus on the sound and encourage the mind to get quiet, and yes, just like meditation, this might take practice!)

Among the benefits are relaxation, an increased sense of well-being, expanded awareness, and access to inner visionary experience.

The general intention of a sound bath is to create a state of harmony in the listener by using sound to clear discordance from the participants' energy fields.

In addition to helping the body relax, sound baths can potentially foster physical healing. Similar to the experience of acupuncture.

Energy can be blocked somewhere that the practitioner helps unlock. Josephine uses frequency and vibration instead of needles.

While it may sound “too good to be true,” corroborating data exists. Numerous studies have pointed to the therapeutic effects of music and sound therapy.

Sound therapy is deeply rooted in science and based on the principles of quantum physics and sacred geometry.

There are hundreds of clinical trials and peer-reviewed white paper studies on the healing properties of sound. Fir example, Western medicine uses sound waves on a daily basis in the form of ultrasound technology, which can be used to break up kidney stones among other things.”
