Late Summer | Spirit Lessons

I am deepening my knowledge and starting with beautiful lessons from Stephanie Nosco, from her book Follow Your Tao. It is becoming a pillar of guidance that I am able to link to my themed retreats, courses and meditations. Read on to find reflection, guidance for yourself in this late summer period.

Spleen & Stomach
When balanced, the spleen and stomach energy doesn’t move anywhere but rather transform and support where we are standing. The stomach literally transforms, taking food and nourishing everything within. The Spleen is responsible for our thoughts, intellect and formation of our intentions.
Out Of Balance
When compromised, we may experience worry, excessive overthinking. We may not feel secure, centred and balanced within our bodies(or perhaps completely disconnected from our bodies). The energy of the stomach must move downwards; when out of balance, it may become ‘rebellious’ and start to move upwards, causing digestion issues, reflux, and swallowing. The earth element is vital for this, it is calling for us to re-root, ground and pull the excessive summer energy to stillness and towards the earth. When we are balanced, we sit with ease in trust and contenment, releasing fear around lack, the belly soft, the breath steady, our feet on the earth.
Nurture

The quickest way to call in harmony for this time of year is to find your breath, to soften the belly and find space for the diaphragm. To sit in stillness for longer than maybe your normal 10-minute meditation.
Prop yourself up on a bolster or in bed, so you are supported at an incline, let your arms drop to your sides, and have your knees and hips supported.
Pay attention to your breath and focus on nurturing and receiving rather than pushing deep breaths in, and allow yourself the time to expand in the belly.
Resting your awareness on the mind's eye, imagine the rhythm and breath of the earth, a warm, golden hue of late summer descending on your still body. The breath is filled with warm gold, nourishing your digestive tract, your stomach and spleen.
As your breath deepens, start to think of a pulling down(apana vayu) and deep calling to the earth, to find your pelvis, hips, the belly heavy and connected.
You can do this for as long as you can, maybe listening to gentle music, a soundbath meditation, or guided visualisation.
